ECTFE Coatings – Halar® Coatings offer Peak performance plus affordability

ECTFE is a melt-processable fluoropolymer, also known by the trade name Halar®. The material’s chemical structure (a 1:1 alternating copolymer of ethylene and chlorotrifluoroethylene) makes it useful in a wide variety of applications, especially as a coating or lining.

ECTFE coatings offer excellent chemical resistance, good electrical properties, a broad-use temperature range from cryogenic to 300°F (150°C), and the ability to meet the requirements of UL-94 V-O vertical flame test in thicknesses as low as .007″ (7 mils). A tough material with excellent impact strength, ECTFE coatings maintain useful properties on exposure to cobalt 60 radiation at dosages of 200 megarads. It is one of the best fluoropolymers for abrasion resistance.

ECTFE coatings fit applications that must exceed the capabilities of PVDF for chemical and thermal resistance, yet must avoid the added cost of a fully fluorinated polymer.
